Best sub-£100 components.....

Well soon I'll be another year old and wiser and I'm trying to talk the other half into buying me a set of components for the front doors. I'm not bothered about going silly so don't want to spend more than £100 on them. I'm running them off an Alpine headunit with 45w per channel and wondered if anyone could recommend anything. I really want something thats gonna give a nice bass tone without messing with a sub?
 Also is there a significant advantage to running an amp to power the speakers if its still only capable of running at a similar power output or is it just a waste of money?

FWIW, if you were running stock, then I'd recommend an amp. However, you've got a decent source (Alpine).

Get over to talk audio this question has been asked a million time. You will be 100x times better off with an amp. Your head unit is 45watt max you actually get like 7wrms which is nothing. The gti has a 3way component in the front doors are you looking to replace all 3or keep standard 4" component?

Most of the components are 2 way rather than three way so what are my options? Run the standard 4", leave it out and just run the 2 way components or is there something else I could do? I have seen some 3 way components for around £150 so that might be an option too. Yes I'd certainly consider ebay if they were new or reconditioned. Also my Headunit states its 4 x 45w RMS?

I've got some 2-way components, and I'm toying with leaving the standard 4" in place....

Can't do it until I get my Head Unit though.

Your head unit is putting out 180Watts (4 x 45) - however, YES, an amp will vastly improve the sound.... bit more work to put it in though.

Focal do a set for £99, i think they might be called Access, but its been a while since been in a car audio shop.

The difference between them and a set of Alpine Type R's for example is night and day.

They do a 2-way set for about £100 or a 3-way set for £150 so I'll probably go for them and save for an amp later in the year.

Nope, about 6 months ago a mate turned up with Blaupunkt Velocity 6.5" components that were 6 years old and said you can have these (2 sets). He used to work for Blaupunkt, they were destined for the skip until he saw that I bought the GTI. They used to retail for over 200 squid.

I had the infinities in my Audi Coupe in 1993, they were ace.

Had Infinities in my Scoob. They were OK.... quite bright, but they were married to a Sony HU ( )....... I prefer a warm sound.... ETTO I suppose :)
