Window grinding noise
« on: August 13, 2010, 06:46:45 pm »
Hello guys, I've got an annoying problem. The drivers side window was squeaking for a few months and a couple of days ago it gave up. Now every time I use the switch I get a grinding noise. The window drops by itself when driving by a couple of inches. One of the techs at work said it's either gone off the rails or the regulators gone. Any ideas? :happy2:

Thanks Stu, how much was the window regulator? Did you change it yourself?

The misses Touran one did it and I bought the complete plate with all the cables regulator pulleys already built.

Its a mess once it does it and it will take a strip down to see what it is but it sounds like the same.

Have a look on ebay as you can buy an upgrade kit for the Touran so maybe for mk5 too.

Thanks H4RDY, I'm going to take it to my local VW specialist and let them do it.

Cheers Darren, I might have to take you up on that offer

Depends what it is though but I'm pretty sure when you scanned my car last time there was some window fault and now it just doesn't work and makes a grinding noise.

Thanks Stu, do you know if it's different on 3 doors and 5 doors? I might have to ring you if it gets too complicated  :signLOL:

Hi mate
not too sure about the difference in the 3-5 door
best check the dealer
I tried most places to get the regulator but no joy
so ended up going to the dealer anyway

Ok, I need some more help on this. The specialist garage have quoted me around £150 which I think is a bit steep. He said you have to take all the window off, the ECUs etc. Is that true?

Hi Stu, I'm probably going to have to give it to a garage to do, just tried take the door card off and sort of broke the mirror switch. I'll be looking to neogtiate on £150 though. Thanks anyway mate :happy2:
