Monza II Tyres - smaller width
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:41:19 pm »
Wondering if anyone has tried thinner width on the 18" Monza II's.  Usually they have 225/40/18's fitted but wondering if I could get any narrorer tyres on there with no stretching or problems etc.

225's are a little too wide, no other problems and like I said its not for looks or anything like that - just to solve a possible issue.

LOL, not missed anything - the Monza II's have been on the Touran for over a year but just noticed the inside edge wearing a little as though it catches on the shock arm or somewhere so to avoid removing them as they suit it quite well I was wondering about thinner tyres.  Its lowered on KW springs BTW.

Oh and sold the mk2 couple of weeks ago (depreciation free motoring at its best!), bought a MINI Cooper S JCW to get me through the winter then we'll see what comes up in the S3/R/GTI pages

Rather than spend out on new tyres that won't protect the fron face of the alloy from errant kerbs why not put some thin spacers on the car to distance the wheel away from the strut a fraction.

Good idea my friend, not though of that - I'll see if thats possible.

The other option is get some 17's and sell the Monza II's - or get some Monza I's !

The 17'' Monzas have the same offset and width and the same overall tyre dimensions as the Monza IIs so you won't be any further on.
Some mk5 Golfs had optional 7JX17 inch rims with ET54 that you could run a 215 50 tyre on which would do the trick. Lots of hassle and expense though to get the same result as a set of 5mm spacers on your sexy Monza IIs.

Might need more than 5mm though - I'll get a pic of the troublesome tyre to show what I mean.
