Which Winter Tyre?
« on: November 08, 2010, 08:02:31 am »
Just bought some 17" Monzas for the winter.
What winter tyre and size would you recommend.
Our local Costco has a 20% off until the end of the week but they only sell Michelins. What do people think of these as a winter tyre.
Will I be able to use my existing wheel bolts off the 18" Monzas.

I've fitted Vredestein Wintrac to my winter wheels. As soon as the average temp is low enough for them to get into their working range, they are going on.

I priced the Michelins at Costco and they came out at £203 Each!!!!!!
Even with 20% off they are too much for me!
With a shortage of Vredestein Wintrac Extreme I have been looking at other tyres.
I was Looking at the Avon Ice Touring ST.
Has anybody fitted them and know what they are like.
What size would I be best getting for 17" Monzas

225/45 R17 94V RF
225/45 R17 91H

Cheers

not sure, but i would chose the 94V, as it's a higher speed rate. I just checked and you need the v rated ones (240 km/h or 149 mph) H is only 130mph or 210 km/h. and 94 is max. 1477 pounds of load on the tyre  :happy2:

i had a bit of a brown trouser moment this morning with the ps3's kinda got me thinking about winter tyres but means i will need to get another set of wheels really otherwise it means spending extra on tyre fitters. do people just whack them on now and keep them on till march then??

in denmark yes. as soon as the sun can't dry up the road surface before 10-11am it's time for wintertyres IMO  :happy2:

Yes to that in UK too. You'll find that the optimum temperature range for most winter tyres will see you through into mid or late March.
