As with everything in detailing, every step is there to reduce damage to the paintwork whilst cleaning it.

I plan on buying some larger buckets and a gritguard. Only a few companies do them and they're not available in the likes of Halfrauds.

Gritguards will reduce the damage inflicted. But you also need to use clean buckets and a decent washmitt. After washing a panel, put the mitt in the "clean" bucket and gently rub the mitt across the surface of the gritguard.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yup - I've got one. Two buckets - Use it in my rinse bucket (obviously). I usually just do one panel at a time, rinsing after each panel or sooner depending how dirty the car is.

I've got one grit guard (not Megs) in each bucket just to be on the safe side.  Didn't work out much more price wise to buy 2 along with the buckets.
