Boot Struts
« on: November 21, 2024, 10:21:14 pm »
Hey guys,

Think I'm just unlucky but since owning my 2007 model since 2017 I must have gotten through about 6x sets of new boot struts... They just don't seem to last! I've bought them from all over the place; eBay, Amazon, Europe... I've never tried genuine ones to be fair.

I've had them do everything from seize, to leak oil and simply stop lifting  :sad1:

Can anyone recommend me a decent brand/supplier?

Thanks!

I bought some aftermarket ones the boot was very stiff to pull down. After a few months in ended up putting the factory ones back on… massive improvement even though one is weak it was miles better. So to answer your question buy genuine.

Speaking from personal experience, OEM Stabilus > everything else. They last, they lift, they work in factory specs. Half the aftermarket ones I've tried failed to even lift, the others would just slam it open.

Right now they are struggling a bit on my car cause it's cold outside and they have to lift that spoiler too, which isn't hollow.

Thanks both! I'll get onto the dealership then - don't really fancy getting secondhand for some something like this...

Struts/Shocks fall under "always new". Dont buy used ones as it's not worth it.
