4 hours later and here he is....
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:07:33 pm »
Cudnt rly get better weather today, although the drying time had me going over areas again and again....finally got there!

unfortunately only have access to a pretty poor iphone camera and my photography skills are pretty rubbish....the  only pic that really shows the shine i have inserted my finger...

i used my brothers stuff, hes got the full autoglym, they did the job ok but could have done with a specialist wax to finish the job? anyone got 1 they can recommend for a black car?

here he is...........

i had a real good go at the tailpipe, dont think it had ever been done, as much as i tried i couldnt get some of the black stuff off, could it be that the chrome has actually been eroded off or something?

Can you feel pitting with your fingers? I have used engine degreaser to successfully remove the black soot spots.

Otherwise very nicely done.

TBH most of the finish is from the prep - cleaning and polishing.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I used Tcut metal polish to clean my tailpipes it looked like they had never been cleaned before spent an hour and a half to do but look loads better just a shame they have pitting in them due to lack of attention over the years

Looking good mate. I took a dremmel to my tailpipes, hopefully yours shouldn't be that bad.

. On the second pic it looks like the guy in the BMW is hoping to reverse before you've taken the shot!

ha, thats my brother.....dont think he was even aware i was taking the shot,  :rolleye:

something in the air / rain at the moment, the day after i spent 5 hours doing it the car looked as if it has just gone rallying, complete waste of time....think ive given up with car cleaning!

will try give the tailpipe another go next time (if there is a next time) but do think the pipe is damage, i swear the black stuff remaining was never coming off!

slighty off topic, just booked my car in to get the side skirts and rear valance coordinated, that reverse shot of the car just didnt look right and i think it was the rear valance standing out like a sore thumb! £320 for the whole job from a pretty reputable based bristol company plus they are gonna repair a slight nick in the top of the rear bumper for free! will post pics when completed! going in on the 14th july

You just need the right sealant in your life  :happy2:

Something like Zaino Z2P would be a great product to finish up with, as it has great water repelling properties, keeping your car cleaner for longer.  It's also looks very good too, which is always a bonus :)

Great work btw, looks very good!

I'd use Wire Wool and Optimum Metal Polish on that there exhaust.
