Bulb out warning
« on: August 03, 2011, 02:48:26 pm »
I'm wondering if anyone could possibly help with my strange situation. The front right "parking light" - side light always reports itself as out when I start the car. Not always but most of the time it will say its out. Others its fine.

I can make the warning light disappear by turning my lights on and it will go off after 15 seconds. But if my lights are already on, I basically have to switch them off and then back on and it sorts itself out.
The bulb works fine from what I've seen. Just wondering why on earth its doing it!

Presumably it does work then? Might be worth swapping it with the other side to see if it's the bulb or the connector

Try dsiconecctingthe battery that may re set it.

I've done so many times since having the fault (fixing other issues with the car). Unfortunately that has had no affect :(

Yeah the bulb does work, which is what's strange... If it didn't I would have replaced it a while ago.
I'm tempted to replace the bulb, problem is I actually can't get it out... I have the standard halogen GTI lights, I've tried twisting/turning/pulling the side light to no avail.

I figured the bulb could be a bit wacky or just on its way out (for 2 months?)

I had one go after doing this for 2 days (not my golf though) so 2 months seems a bit long. They're a pain to get out. You'll need the following:-

- Determination
- A choice selection of expletives
- Brute force

Change the bulb and go from there.

I had this for a few weeks then it went to the stealers, they put a new bulb in FOC and had no problems since

Cheers for advice. I think I'm going to go for round 1259 at taking this pissing bulb out! Tried getting all possible tools in there to help get it out, ridiculously stuck in there. Hopefully a new bulb solves all  :happy2:

Did you figure out the problem in the end?

I've had almost the exact same problem with my front xenon headlamp which was retrofitted, also on my 1.9TDI.

I'm thinking it may be to do with the CANBUS module, or CECM I'm running perhaps?

So far everything has been fine. I replaced the side light W5W bulb with another I knew was fine.
The light hasn't come back on the dash and the bulbs always worked  :happy2:

My issue was with standard halogen headlights. So not quite sure to be honest!
