When type-C DVs go bad - epic fail!!
« on: March 31, 2009, 10:28:05 am »
Felt this go pop in the week, t'was p***ing boost like a good-un! Luckily I had a type-G in reserve for a quick swap-a-roo.

No fault codes/warning lights (although VCDS logging or a boost gauge would have obviously shown the drop), just the butt dyno and keen hearing in my diagnostic toolbox!

Sideways yo!

28K, 19k of which it has been mapped... its two and a half years young.

I don't see the point of the Forge one for a K03, unless you want a boost gauge.

Thats not to bad at all really is it, they do reckon the later revision is much better as well.  I have never had an issue with a later type DV on the mapped ED30 I had and on the mapped S3 I have now :happy2:  Although i did use the Forge 1 on my regular mapped GTI as a precauition as much as anything

Is the G revision the new piston type valve??

My valves were blowing every 4-6k miles on my K03 GTI until I went Forge..

Yes Steve, even easier to find on yours I believe?

Dunno about the ins and outs of a Ver G Jonny, but if I got 2.5 years out of a C and at 1/5th of the price of a Forge - if the G is better, then I ain't upgrading!

x2 I kept blowing B and C revision gauges until I swapped for the forge unit. This G unit (haha) is meant to be very reliable though.

Should be printed on the DV in white lettering.

Mine's got the VW and Audi symbol and underneath it:

06F 145 710 C <---- C being the version.
5900 110 7044
7.00415.03      APG

Oooh nasty!!

I can understand your methodology around keeping with the OEM DV's, but it would just niggle me knowing there maybe a fault developing in the DV. (a bit like my ARB brackets )
