front end re-spray due to Careless VW. GRRRR
« on: November 04, 2011, 01:55:32 pm »
Picked my golf up this lunchtime after getting a call to say my cambelt & water pump change was done

I got dropped off by a colleague & as I went to have a quick snoop around my car for any marks I saw a very obviously mashed front bumper & centre section!

They have hammered both, scratched everywhere down to primer.

The manager was very apologetic & car is booked in for front bumper respray on Monday.

Now...in my haste i've said I'll remove the front bumper and take it to the bodyshop myself as I wouldn't trust them to look after my vacuum cleaner.... it's a solid black gti & my question is will the bodyshp be ok with this or would it be best to drop the whole car off & I might get my wings resprayed to blend in the bumper....?

thanks for any advice

Martin

would imagine that are 100000 types of black

take the whole car down otherwise it wont match!
Standard: Rear parking sensors, Parrot Bluetooth
Retro fitted: MFSW buttons, RCD510, Boot pop, Black Monza II, Xenons, Audi jacking points, open fog light grills.

^^^^^
Take the car complete and tell them your concerns about colour match and panel fit. That way at least they know what you expect from them before they touch it.Also, when you go to pick it up, check it in daylight, not in a bay etc.
Good luck.

John

As above. Take a few torches, look at it from different angles in varying shades of light etc. It could look 100% spot on match on a cloudy day but be stark different on a sunny day, or in an indoor car park!

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

when you go to pick it up, check it in daylight, not in a bay etc.

DO check it indoors under fluorescent lighting if at all possible (it probably wont be though) as this will show up the quality of the paint job and colour match easier, but then also check it outside in daylight, whatever you do do not accept the car in the rain or if it's getting dark.

thanks guys

I've been to the bodyshop & had a chat, I think they understand how much of a twitcher I am when it comes to my car.

They are not going to wash the vehicle just blow the dust off with compressed air. Here's hoping for good results. Will be taking my 480 lumens bike light

just a shame it has happened, careless twonks

cheers :happy2:
