poor fm radio reception with rcd510 (swapped from MFD2)
« on: November 05, 2011, 01:50:33 pm »
I'm getting a bit fed up with the new headunit already  :sad1:

Why is nothing simple!! lol

So I had a MFD2 headunit before and my car has the diversity FM aerial in the rear window (not sure if all golfs had this??). Anyway FM reception was fine.

Not ive got the rcd510 in place and the reception is ok but its constantly switching between frequencies.

Ive found this info basically saying my old MFD2 used a separate diversity switcher and I've checked and I do indeed have this under my drivers seat..
http://www.my-gti.com/1698/volkswagen-aerial-selection-control-unit-diversity-information

And as far as I can tell he is saying on that page that my new RCD510 now performs that function in the headunit.. so I'm guessing my problems are because the box is still trying to swtich signals?

On that page he says about bypassing the box but doesnt give any details on how to really do this.

Any advice or ideas??

Once i've done this I STILL need to get my DAB working and then code my new CAN Gateway.

Thanks in advance

this is the box...

the brown plug and the white plug come from the headunit. I need to connect them directly to the two wires that go into the box via the big pink plug... but  how do I know which wire to connect each colour too...

if that makes sense.

thanks

Need a Fakra to Fakra cable I think? Not sure you can buy them or make them? Connectors are on eBay?

HUH... thats the very link i posted in my first thread mate!

its not very clear on which of the two cables need mating together... like I said in the 2nd post with the photo.. I have 2 wires coming from the headunit and 2 coming from the aerial in the boot but which ones do you connect together?? or does it matter?
