Annoying Rattles From Golf Mk5?
« on: April 30, 2009, 06:28:14 pm »
Hi there I get the most annoying rattles from both sides of my golf the major one being in the passenger side its constant i dont even need to be playing any music to hear it, and from my drivers side its not so constant but definitely there, my steering wheel column that meets the dash rattles over some surfaces as well, anyone else have this problem with their golf? I did some reading and saw something called Dynamat people use it to sound proof their doors but I havent got a clue how to open doors!!

I had the one were the steering colum rattles, took ages for the dealer to find! It put me off the car for about a month completely! they repacked it but its come bak, it quietens when I move the colum up and down tho. (sounds like a window vibrating tho).
And I have one from the passenger side too, I think its the glove box!

You need to get some one in the car with you, and hunt them down.
Be patient as it will take a while.  :driver:

....

Different rattles come and go and are influenced by temperature and the time of year.

Surely once you are focussed on driving, your mind shuts out any squeaks and rattles if it's just interior trim etc.

Are some of you guys perhaps expecting too much from a Golf? It's hardly a Phaeton.

if i turn up the volume the rattle loudens! i think im gonna have to go into to the door and use foam or something to silence it, the dash rattle wasnt there today but the doors are most present. sometimes the vents rattle but that doesnt annoy me (yet)

It could be something to do with the speaker.

Has something dropped off it ?

Having high expectations about anything or anyone, invariably breeds negativity.

But specifically regarding cars, I'm one of those people who gets irritated by an over soundproofed vehicle - I hate that caccooned silence that some think is luxury. I like to feel and hear the tactile nature of my ride, whatever it is.

Apparently VW have increased the soundproofing in the Mk6

I'm being lent the latest Audi S4 to play with soon and really hope it's not too quiet!
