Ive been to Egypt three times (Cairo once and Sharm el Sheikh twice) and have been once to Turkey (Icmeler).  Apart from Cairo I haven't seen much of Egypt as I'm a diver so spend a lot of time under or on top of the water.  I also didn't see much of Turkey as the friend I went with was ill all week so I was on my own and didn't really go far from the hotel.

If I was going on a sightseeing holiday I think I'd try Turkey as I've seen the main sights of Egypt in the form of Pyramids etc. But as a diver I'd choose Egypt because 30m underwater in the Red Sea is one of my favourite places in the world.  If I wasn't a diver though I'd choose Turkey!

Turkey: Never been but must go to Istanbul this year. One of the great cities of the world.

Egypt: Been twice.
(1) To Cairo and stayed at The Fours Seasons First Residence - amongst the world's top 10 hotels. Amazing hotal, wild city, loved the Pyramids etc. Was driven around in a stretched BMW 7 Series with a fab drinks cabinet.
(2) On a 2 week Nile Cruise on one of the Oberoi boats. Simply the best holiday I have ever had. Nothing prepares one for the amazing sights. The 5* boat had a Michelin * restaurant. What an experience. Go in early January.

Ah, those were the days.

Don't like beaches. Too messy for me, so cannot help.

Thanks guys! Luxor sounds good and I've had some positive feedback at work about it too.

Can anyone confirm what the beaches are like around Luxor? I've heard the coral causes a big problem? Also any hotel recommendations would be brilliant  :happy2:

Thanks to everyone who's contributed and keep the resort and hotel recommendations coming

Had egypt booked last year, but changed it to dom rep due to the uprising. Booked it again for this year in the new 5 star hotel. Never been turkey, the GF has and said the men are pervy and constantly want to do swaps with camels lol. But then I hear the egyptian men can be pervy too.

What about one of th greek islands? Greek cuisine is great

I took the other half on a Nile Cruise a few years ago and it was awesome.. Egypt was just unreal, I have friends who regularly visit Egypt 3-4 times a year for diving, sights and relaxing...

Everyone I know who has been to Turkey comes back with the sh*ts....

Myself and Mrs Choppers did the Nile last year, had a great time, went in May, was supposed to do Cairo, Pyrmaids etc and then on to the red sea, but had to fly back as the father in law was taken ill.

We travelled with Kuoni, who were brilliant at getting us home as such short notice (was home within 24 hours from Luxor)

This is the second holiday we've had woith Kuoni, did Sri Lanka in 2010. whould wholehearlty recommened them. You travel in small groups, we had 26 in Sri Lanka and only 6 of us for the Egypt trip. The courier was fantastic.

The Nile cruise was great, plenty of chill time and lots to see, the weather was great too. The only time we got hassle from the a couple of street traders was in Aswan, otherwise they were friendly people. Oh if you do this trip Optional excursion to the Temple of Abu Simbel by bus, its a 3.45am start.... :innocent: But well worth it.

With regards to Turkey never been.

I'll uplaod some photos from Egypt shortly.  :happy2:

Enjoy.

Hi all, just wanted to bump this.

We have decided on Turkey, but haven't got a resort or hotel nailed down yet.

Any recommendations please? :happy2:

Mexico !! I had the same dilemma at weekend , was looking to book 2 weeks all inclusive 5* in June. Looked at everywhere and couldn't decide and everywhere was expensive. Mexico was £2200 which was £60 more than Egypt ! It's in Riviera Maya near Playa Del Carmen, went last year and it was faultless, albeit a different hotel  :happy2:

I went to Turkey last year and it was great, food was cheap and very nice, lots of trips, weather was perfect and the people were very friendly and not too pushy.  We stayed in Oludeniz and everything we needed was all there.
