I think 18'' alloys are fine on the mk5 GTI.
ED35. Standard factory condition.

The size of the wheel makes no difference, to keep the rolling circumference the tyre wall goes bigger or smaller, meaning both 18in and 19in will be the same size effectively once the tyre is fitted.
regarding the staggered fitment, 9.5 on the rear will be very close to the strut on the inside, not sure but you may need a spacer there as well to clear it. Also you will have to add some camber front and back to get them to fit under the arches, if you plan to lower it at all. And finally 19in 9.5j fake lm,s are going to weigh about the same as a R 32.  you will need a good stereo system pumped up loud so you cant here the crashing and banging from your set up.
Good luck post up pics of the car once there on.  :happy2:

as far as i know you will probably have more problems with the front than the back, depends on the offsets really, easily put a bit of camber on the back to stop any scrubbing, may need to roll the front arches though, plus depends how low you go

Go for 18inch LM's mate, I had some on my car and they were only about £400 for reps.

19s for me, but unless you're looking for a real wide look with stretched tyres, stick to a max of 8.5" and ET45 (or up to ET50) at the front and ET40 (or up to ET50) at the back.  Tyres should be 235/35x19, or if you go for 8" wide, 235/35 or 225/35.

Yeah if I swap my 19's back to the 18's....I can't wait to get the 19's back on.  :ashamed:

Aesthetically the  perfect size wheel for the mk5 golf and looks even better when the car is lowered  :happy2:
