Jerky gear changes. Common on the gti?
« on: October 11, 2012, 08:44:20 am »
Hi. I've noticed that since I bought my gti mk5 in feb, I struggle to get a nice smooth gear change from 1st to 2nd. It does this also when I'm also pulling off in first. When I first hit the accelerator and take my foot off the clutch to start moving, it it quite jerky most of the time. I've noticed that I also have to take my foot off the clutch very slowly cos if I do it at a normal speed the car jerks again.

Sometimes I can do it do it's smooth from pulling off and changing from 1st to 2nd but its not often and I seem to have to find the absolute perfect spot for clutch and accelerator.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has this problem or could it be something wrong with my gears?

The lower engine mount could cause this, can get both parts for around £60 from VW & an insert for £20 if u want that too. Maybe take a few hours to fit
