Fake electronics on ebay from China. Can they get away with it?
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:02:17 am »

Is it possible for a seller on ebay to sell fake USB flash drives?

Ive seen one at such a ridiculous price, it cannot be the real deal.

The guy has sold 148 in the last 3 days, but so far has only received 1 feedback for the drives. It is positive, but it just says  "Recommended seller thanks". His feedback rating is 591 at 98.1%.

He has only 10 usb drives left.

I have asked the seller a question, saying is this a genuine product, but it was only 10 mins ago. I doubt I will get a reply.

Its not a lot of money for this, but thats not the point. If it is fake whats the chances of getting the money back?

I was fooled by these plonkers a few years ago..bought a 32GB SD card for about 8 quid, when it arrived it was a 256MB one  :fighting:

Needless to say, the sellers' profile 'disappeared' and I was unable to chase them for a refund!

It's scammers who give eBay the bad reputation and who spread mistrust.

Even if the percentage of folks buying from a scammer is small, the actual number of buyers might be substantial on a worldwide basis. And if the price of the offered item is small, it still adds up to a worthwhile sum. Furthermore, folks are often inclined to think "Oh well, it's only £x and no great loss if it's a bad product and a great deal if it's a good product" and so folks take the risk.

Personally I'm extremely distrustful of eBay even though I know my distrust is not totally justified. I don't even want to sell anything on eBay.

When I say its a ridiculous price I mean it too.  :surprised:

The guy is also selling £400-500 watches for £24

He is not saying they are 100% genuine, but he is selling his product with the correct spec list and part numbers  :stupid:

So is it just that eBay don't know about the guy?

Use your head. If someone is asking 500 quid but it now on an 8 grand Rolex..... You do the math.

If its too cheap, it's too cheap for a reason.

HAHAHA, This guy has gone from having 20+ items 1hr ago to now just having 1 listing. He has ended all the other items.

This is the listing for the 256gb Kingston Hyper X 3.0 for £16.99
They normally sell for around £300.

Those sellers are no good they should be SHOT :fighting:. They know how to con themselves in to selling Genuine Products ,  Say for instance the new Hard Drives SSD's , They give the promise that its an 128GB SSD AT only £99.99 which is a fair price but what it really is a normal USB STick in the Hard drive which pieces of Heavy Metal glued on so it can be Heavy.

When I lived in China there is so much fake stuff everywhere, selling USB drives with capacities that far exceeded anything manufacturers were even listing at the time... things like a 1TB Kingston USB drive for peanuts... they'd plug it in and you'd see that amount of capacity too... then i asked him to format it for me and he refused lol

It was fun to wind them up and have a laugh but they have so much fake crap i'd never buy anything from them remotely via ebay - even when i was over there they'd try there luck.

I suspect Paypal protection would cover you, but if you're looking at stuff which you think might be junk, then 99% chance it is, so dont waste your time... you're never going to end up being pleasantly suprised, that I will assure you of!

To give you an idea of what its like... where I lived, i had 3 "DVD" shops close by... each of these were huge... everything they sold was pirate... nothing was legit... its just how it is over there.

In Shanghai, the main shopping street is Nanjing road... Peoples park is in the middle of this road... one way is all the fake stuff, the other is all the genuine stuff.... now with both being able to be sold in shops so close to each other, i'd never trust the genuine stuff either!
