This may not apply to members here...

I bought my mum a new PC (my phone has a bigger memory than her old computer), and it came with Win8.  Three weeks later, she still couldn't get on with it.  My local computer repair shop owner said he'd had Win8 for a month (of daily use) and was just getting comfortable with it.

The main problem is the tiles on the 'home' screen which hides everything you need.   :fighting2:

I'd say that it works better if you're a facebook and newsfeed addict, but it's totally unsuited to someone who uses a computer mainly at work and just wants a home PC for e-mails and photos.  It's the change from old to new.

Incidentally, I complained to PC World, saying that I'd asked for the equivalent to a new Mini, and they'd sold me a helicopter.  I accepted that they were both capable of getting to the shops, but not with my mother piloting them.  They gave me a full refund!

Brilliant :happy2:

I've not tried windows 8 yet but looks more suited to a tablet/mobile phone.

Do people just not realise you can disable metro and make Win8 practically look like Win7?

Nice link :happy2:  Might look into getting Win 8 based on that.

I wish I'd seen that, instead of trusting PC World, who said it couldn't be done.  Incidentally, it would appear to be very difficult to downgrade to Win7 from Win8, and impossible if you've got the lowly (non-pro) versions of Win8.

On the upside, there are some great bargains to be had on Win7 PCs!

You listened to what PC World says? They are just teenagers working part time at school or college mostly.
