Edition 30 steady speed fuel consumption?
« on: February 13, 2013, 04:23:44 pm »
I know there are several threads about fuel consumption but maybe it could be done slightly differently..

Whats your ed 30 fuel consumption indicated at a steady 50 and 60 mph in 6th gear.

After zeroing at the required speed, mines an indicated 34 ish and 31 mpg respectively using cruise control. I think that seems to be poor tbh even though mine may be mapped. Speed for speed and on a steady throttle mapped/unmapped should be similair I'd have thought.

I know my bluefin at stage 2 doing 70 is 30mpg bang on.

Edit..

Based on the end of the journey figure...

You will see higher but depends if your coasting or driving up a continual incline .

Mapped / unmapped was the same at steady throttle for me (I saw what my tuner was doing with the map)

Those figures are a little poor as my GTI would do high 30s / early 40's at 70mph with cruise on

Mine at those speed's would be in the high 30's so your's is a little low,but do take the cold weather into consideration!

If I zero the mpg counter once I hit the motorway and stay at 60mph, I get around 42-44mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

There is a 4 mile stretch just outside of town that I went each direction resetting the avg mileage at each start.

Both directions with cruise control at 50 mph(actually held at 52.5 because I know my speed is 2 mph slow):
1st) going out = 38.3 mpg avg
2nd) coming back = 35.5 mpg avg

Average of 36.9 mpg....

I have just cleaned my MAF with brake cleaner and wow!

50mph = 38mpg, 60 mph 37mpg.

Allowing for a bit of temp variation, thats still a huge difference from my low 30's of before.

Is that the best thing to clean the MAF?

Probably not, but its what I have in the garage! It seems to have worked (or at least done something) ok at the mo though.

I cleaned the maf with maf cleaner and it still went out. Best thing is to check what your intake air mass is and if the IAM< 0.8(BHP)(g/s)

for a 200hp gti 200*0.80=160g/s
So if you don't reach that you should only then clean it to see if that makes a diff. If not then you need a new maf.

Today I had a 9 mile stretch beginning and ending at the same elevation and it averaged 35.5mpg at 55mph with cruise on.
The road was a route through the countryside on the way home and has twists and humps.
