mk2 leon with problem
« on: June 30, 2013, 10:51:01 pm »
Hi Guys

I have come across a problem in a friends car

Address 01: Engine        Labels: 03G-906-016-BKD.lbl
   Part No SW: 03G 906 016 AJ    HW: 028 101 173 0
   Component: R4 2,0L EDC G000SG  7341
   Revision: 12345678    Serial number: SEZ7Z033456742
   Coding: 0050072
   Shop #: WSC 06441 785 00200
   VCID: 6BD191E84A90F240E59

1 Fault Found:
19559 - Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (V157)
            P3103 - 000 - Malfunction
             Freeze Frame:
                    RPM: 2331 /min
                    Torque: 240.0 Nm
                    Speed: 31.0 km/h
                    Load: 49.8 %
                    Voltage: 14.29 V
                    Bin. Bits: 00101000
                    Torque: 406.0 Nm
                    Torque: 232.0 Nm

It sounds like there is something trying to move but its whining/chugging noise.

I assume it is the Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (V157) where can this be found on the 2.0 lt TDI

anyone can help, i'm very grateful.

thanks
Neil

Its the valve at the front of the inlet, just before the Egr valve. Fairly common for these to fail.

As Alex has said. Its connected to the EGR and is also referred to as the ASV or anti-shudder valve. The intake pipe up the front of the engine goes into the bottom of it. The bit below my EGR delete in this photo:

There are some plastic cogs in the motor mechanism I believe that break and get jammed up.

I was thinking that, just was not 100% sure as im not a diesel man lol that's were the noise is coming from, it does sound as if it is jammed.

Would any of you know the latest part number for me to ask for please ?  :happy2:

Would this be it from the Scan Part No SW: 03G 906 016 AJ

Also Would it be safe to still drive about in, not far and deffo not fast, untill fixed when ever i can get the part?

hopefully today / tomorrow

thanks
Neil

not sure on the latest parts revision, but if its closed the car will perform pretty bad I would think.  Very noticable, power loss, prob smoke too.  If the car is driving normal, that means its stuck open which wont do any harm until yo uget a replacement fitted!

Cheers mateys  :drinking:

I took it off last night,  i should have taken some pictures but my hands were to dirty  :signLOL:

it was caked up real bad, but the fault codes cleared, took it for a good run, came back and the code was back, but the engine mangement light stayed off for a wee while, but came back on, and keeps coming back on every time it is cleared.

looking like it needs a new part but the best part of 300 quids  :scared:, was wanting to try a second hard part first, not my car not my monies!

I did notice that the pipe running up to the valves there was really oily, loads of oil... thats the pipe from the intercooler as far as im aware?

Mine was gunked up when I took it off to fit the EGR delete.

I maybe wrong but i believe it only has an open and closed position. Its not like a throttle body on a petrol. When you turn the ignition off it closes to stop any air entering the engine and reduces the chance of the engine 'running off'. You can hear a high pitched electrical whistle for a short period after the ignition is turned off and then a click as it opens again.

You can also do output tests using VCDS to check its functioning or not.
