Was driving back from tescos last week and suddenly felt a massive 'clunk' the had the dreaded PRNDS flashing with no gear selected, no power was going to the wheels - was like changing into 1st gear at 30mph. managed to stagger on for another 4/5 miles having to switch the ignition on and off several times until i parked up and phoned VW roadside assistence.
got it to my local VW garage who were excellent, they diagnosed that it needed a brand new DRS gearbox...
so after a week and a half the car is fixed and feels better than ever, was worried that it would wipe my remap but all is good, they also found a problem with the immobiliser so have had a brand new dash cluster installed and my keys recoded!
car feels so much smother - didnt realise there was anything wrong with the gearbox until now, all the changes are so much quicker and smoother, and maybe its just me back the car feels perkier too!!
all in all very please - the VW garage that i bought the car from even paid for the hire car for nearly 2 weeks (£250..)
anyone else had this problem with the gearbox and anyone else know what causes it?
