Renault espace timing advice

My friend has a espace and thought it prudent to get the cam belt changed ,he employed the local garage  and on its return thought sh*t it runs crap, So then took it to a injection specialist  who said everything was ok but in there opinion the timing was out but as it had just had a new belt ( what did they know) on the journey home it ran even worse so he returned it to the first garage, He asked they check the timing sure enough the belt has slipped two teeth,To cut along story down Garage number 1 is saying it was number 2 who have messed it up,

TO THE POINT if the belt is returned to the correct position do you think it will be ok or is the engine likely to be fooked. I think my mate is reluctant to drive it away and the garage are saying it was the injection boys who messed it up .
My advice last night was make them time the car correctly and go for a drive he may have been lucky , The issue I think is neither Garage will want to take the blame .

If it still starts and runs then the chances of major damage is very slim.

What engine is in it ? Sounds like they have timed it up wrong probably by not using the correct Renault timing belt tools (cam locking bar and crank locking pin) as most Renaults run "floating" pulley systems and garage or not it's very easy to time up a Renault engine incorrectly , I've seen this happen SO many times on the F4R engine fitted to the 172 182 and even 197 clio's.
