New car options ?
« on: March 12, 2014, 06:14:51 pm »
I've got the oppertunity to get a company car - I've got two options.

Option 1 -- for the typical lex Lease  which would be pretty much the car of my choice under insurance group 15 and must have 4 doors - this encompasses most cars up to about 30k under group 15 If I went for this option I was thinking of either a a class with the AMG body kit, A4 s line, Merc C class or a completely bog standard 5 series

Option 2 -- cash for cars, after tax I'd have about 4k per year extra to buy and maintain a car, the car can be kept for 4 years (so effectively 16k towards a new car) obviously I'll need to pick up all insurance and maintenance this way. However I reccon I should only average around 10k per year - so if I sold my car including the cash for cars value I should technically have 28k straight of the bat. Now if I put down 3k or so down of my own money I could have an m135i or golf R either that or I could go the other way and buy a brand new polo for £11k and pocket the cash !!

This would be my first experiance etc in the company car world so anyone who can advise if there work has a simelar policy please feel free to comment.

If you are only going to do 10k miles or less it would make more sense to go the private route. Don't forget that the company option brings company car tax in to the equation as well

I have always taken the cash and do similar miles to you. There is not night and day between the two options until you start to factor in 15k+ miles

Yip kind of what I was thinking too, the company doesn't let you choose the car untill your trial period is out (1 years trial) - so I've had a mk7 golf for 6 months and I've had a Volvo v50 up until now, so that's time for me to choose at the start of April !

If you do go company car route, pick the midrange engine and spec the balls off it. When I was buying company cars there were so many people that tried to go for boggo 5 series when a 318/320 spec'd up would be the better car. I'd even consider the M135i if i was doing <10,000 miles per year.

Wouldnt bother with a 135i, my stage 2 cupra is quicker than my mates 135i....but tbf, if he remapped his, it'd be a monster lol

Kind of mate - on shore electrical support kind of thing, based in Larbert, so I've not been offshore since I started the job but I might need to go every now and again.

There is a lot more to a car than straight line performance , the figures my eddy puts out are a lot more favourable than the
M135i, but then again I've spent 4-5 k on mods ! I'd still get spanked 0-60 though ! Can't seem to compete with the m 0-60, but it claws it's self back pretty quickly - if I remember correctly my best 0-60 is about 5.5 in the eddy actually had better 0-60 times in my 280bhp gti however I did have 888s on that - but over a 1/4 the eddy claws it back and some ! - I think the m135i states 13.3 for the 1/4 but the ones I've seen at crail have been off the mark by a bit - could be driver related though - all I know is on my test drive I thought it was an excellent car - it actually feels faster than the eddy deffo an m car ! I'd like to find a way to have them both. I know for a fact I won't get another eddy like the one I've got, and I still love driving it so it will be a tough decision !
You must be getting good results on your s2 cupra to be quicker than the m135i
