Pressed plate holder help
« on: July 08, 2014, 08:55:47 am »
I fitted my dubmeister plates last night, back one is fine and fits perfect but the front one sits wierd and to me looks like it sticks really far out.

2 questions:

1. Does the bit behind it come off
2. Should I pap the holder off and just get some sticky pads and stick it to the bit the original plate was mounted to, i dont mind the look its just the security of the plate that concerns me.

Cheers!

I didn't like the look of the holder on the front. I found it better to gently curve the metal plate and then use double sided tape specifically for number plates. Got mine off ebay. Plate has stuck to the grille for the last few years without any problems and has never loosened or come off, be it hot and sunny, snow and ice, or pouring rain.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Did you do the same for the back one or is that in a holder?

No I preferred the look of the holder on the back one esp with the writing underneath it.

^^^ x 2
defo looks better in a holder on the rear.
my plates already had holes in, so I just put the plate in the holder, and fitted the screws through the lot.

i had the same problem when i fitted my autohaus surrounds, the black plastic bit thats attached to the bumper comes out, you have to take the mesh grill off, and theres some screws behind that.

took me some time, but looks far better with the surround on the front that just attached to that plastic bit.
