RNS510DAB Firmware help pleeeeeeease
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:42:44 pm »
Iv tried to educate myself by searching here and the net but ended up more confused than when I started.  Any help, links etc would be really apprieciated.

I bought an RNS510 DAB early this year, its manufacture date is Feb 2014 with the following version info....

Delivery part number     1T0035686E
HW-Version                   H21
SW-Version                   6270
Active map covera...      West Europe
Active map supplie...     Navteq
Map version HDD          8048

Im under the impression my unit is a C14(?) unit and there is a firmware update for DAB+ and other improvements but don't have the confidence to download something then install it to only brick my RNS as I'v chosen the wrong firmware update.  I'v got V11 maps coming from a forum member so figure I'd admit defeat and ask for help.

If any one could point me in the direction of the right firmware to download I would be really grateful  :happy2:

There's an update which you probably know about, but it's not been made available on the web really, due to its exclusivity to the units it's suitable for. If it was made freely available then all and sundry would be downloading it and trying to upgrade their old units, which would result in many bricks. So the odd few people who have this update are keeping it close to their chests so that there are no issues. For the moment, I would be holding off from downloading anything and trying it out to see what happens, as you could very easily make yourself a brick.

If you really do want to try and update it then I could point you in the right direction, but you'd then need to convince the guy that you really needed it and actually had a use for it.  Even the 6270 firmware is held back for just this reason.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

Leave it alone, there is no official update

The firmware you have with the hardware indicates your unit is DAB+

My unit has the same hardware & firmware

DAB+ is dependent on the radio station you can pick up

A recent trip to London gave me several DAB+ Slide shows

Thank you gents - won't be touching the firmware then! At the risk of sounding like a wally, V11 maps is all good right?

I am desperate for fw 6270 - factory version too.

My rns 510 is version 'S' which means the gps chipset is newer, I believe from 'R' onwards.
This means older firmware 4x or 5x can not be installed.  only 6x onwards

My radio was bought new, off ebay with version 6276, which is a hashed firmware to enable video in montion.
Due to having lots of problems, teething issues with my radio, and lots of research, there does seem to be a common pattern!
That common pattern is that most issues are solved with unmessed factory firmware.

That is why I really need fw 6270, if there is anyone that can supply me this?  Please.
