Hi guys

I've got a 55 plate GTi that came with the RCD500 - 10 speaker CD player thingy.
When I listen to the radio the sound from the speakers is quite terrible, when I play a CD its a little better but still not great.

I'm just trying to work out if its worth asking Santa for a RNS 510 for Christmas but have a few questions ...

1, Will the sound improve? I've read on here people hoped it would and just wondering if it will? IS the RNS510 more powerful? Watts per channel etc ???

2, Parts I'll need and things to consider
           1, RNS510,
           2, GPS
           3, Aerial Adaptor Converter Cable
4, New canbus ? (How do I tell if I need one and how much are they)
5, Re coding to my car (How do I tell if I need to do this and how much - I live in Leeds  :drinking:)
Anything else ??

3, What version - Not fussed about DAB, would like LED but not fussed if not. Whats the best non LED and LED to look for?

I'm happy to do the work myself  :happy2:

Thanks guys for any advice you can give me  :jumpmove:

It's a good upgrade over the standard cd systems etc. but I'm not sure how good it is over the RCD500. It'll be better certainly.

As for the version you should get, well, aim for the best your budget allows really. LED is sharper and crisper screen, so really that's got to be the one to go for.

Coding to the car is not much time really, and probably beer money for someone with VCDS. It will need doing though.
Sarcasm for free. Anything after that can only be considered as a bonus.

Just because you think you know something, doesn't make you an expert if you've just read it on the internet, y'know.

I also have the RCD500 with 10 speakers and I totally agree the sound quality is quite poor, it lacks clarity and the mid bass is almost non existent.. I'm sure it's not the speakers and that the RCD500 has a poor internal amplifier or something so I'm expecting (hoping) it will be transformed once I buy an RNS510

Canbus will most likely need changing from what I've read (to avoid battery drain) Ideally you need a scan performed on your car to find out the part number of the module? I won't have to change mine as it's a later car.
Coding with VCDS will also need doing.

Thanks guys for the replies !

So look like the sound will be better and thats great news.

Still confused on the canbus as I've looked on ebay and some of the listing say the device can come with firmware so you don't get the battery drain ?? Is this easy to do myself and save £75 on a new canbus ??

Also found a cool chap on here to do the Coding with VCDS but again, not sure what this is for ??

Any answers to these two questions would be appreciated  :happy2:

eddy=nl does a pre-coded gateways. this means you can just plug it into your car. otherwise you will need someone to code it to your car
