go for a R8 oil cap, but remember that you will need to mod it so it sits stright with the engine cover. but can be used without any problems right as it is :)

I used a pair of slip nose pliers in the grooves and opened the cap to remove it.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Porsche oil caps fit fine.
To get the old lid off just use a screwdriver....

my mates GTI lost its top cap, we used normal pliers opened up either side of the little lip in side the cone bit and twisted... worked perfectly and no risk of damaging anything else. (sorry couldn't explain very well haha)

I have lost 5 so far... I have been told it might be the pressure release valve needs replacing ? as pressure is building up in the engine it has nowhere to go and the oil caps are a week point. I am currently driving around with a spare in the glove box at all times as I lose it that often!

Bingo... I would happily believe that, my mates PCV is on its way out which is likely the reason for the cap pinging off.
