DSG
« on: June 05, 2015, 12:40:39 pm »
Hi, need some advise. So in a previous thread I mentioned that I also have a DSG issue.

The gearbox has always been noisy since I bought it (6 months ago) and I had a DSG service carried out and  that made no difference. A few days ago I put my foot down a bit thinking the gears would drop and lost all drive. Engine revved as it should but my dash was flashing. Pulled up and turned the car off/on. Drove ok but still with the noisy gearbox oh and now it hesitates changing from 2nd to 3rd.  My question is...do you think its worth fixing the gearbox as I have read it could cost upto a grand or would someone here want to offer me some money and take it away as a project etc? I can't really break it as it would take a fair bit of time and space is an issue.

Its getting to that point in these cars lives where stuff falls to bits.

DSG is not a cheap fix.  :scared:  BUT... once fixed it will be ok for another 7-8 years + so worth doing IMO

2 Grand is a stupid price.

That must be stealers price no?

Has anybody got a quote from a independent garage?

The Mechatronics unit is hideously expensive cheapest I've found is £1740.... before fitting and oil+filter change!

Hi, there are non-dealer specialists out there, I found a Nottingham gearbox outfit claiming to supply from between 850 and 1300 (+vat) for a mechatronic, further afield is a Danish bunch who have one at about 725 GBP   http://www.dsg-mechatronic.dk/index.php/dq250/dsg-mechatronic-unit-refurbished.html

Hope you get lucky, pity to ditch the car for such a "small" part.

A DSG box shouldn't be noisy even if the mechatronics is playing up. I'd get that diagnosed before throwing money at a new mechatronics unit.

Not used them but when I was trying to find a gearbox specialist that would actually touch a DSG box (most wouldn't) they popped up on searching. In the end I had mine done by A1 Premier Transmissions as they offer a collection service from within the UK. Bit slow to get the job done as they're extremely busy but they sorted out a rebuild with new clutch packs, bearings etc. Not cheap though as it cost me £1800.

http://www.ecutesting.com/vw_and_audi_dsg_gearbox_ecu.html

I know a few people who have used them , they take your exisiting Mechatronic unit and Refurb it ( repairing the ECU ) - much cheaper than going the replacement route. You would have to remove the unit and post/bring it to them.

VW have been known to provide goodwill discounts on replacement mechatronics units or clutch packs if the car has a VW service history including evidence of DSG service being carried out.
