HPFP Noise

yes bud, the chain came off over adjuster when removing cam, was a bit of a wiggle but bolt was stuck fast 

the first time i did it i just marked both cams and cam 'box' with paint pen then matched the mark onto the new cam, worked fine but wasn't ideal so i bought a cam locking tool for the next few i did

Glad to know i'm not the only one that had problems with that bolt. So i could remove the chain/tensioner then the cam?

I would remove the locking tool while removing/replacing cam and box. Then put it back in place before replacing the chain?

The lobe is on my todo list. I recently listened to a 2008 gti with 80,000 km it was way quieter than mine. I keep homing in on a noise from the HPFP area. (not the chain diesel noise)
I've ordered a new purge valve which can be noisy but mine is throwing no errors.

Mine sounds a little diesely inside the car when hot and the A/C off (slower idle speed), but outside the car it sounds normal.  Also, when I listen to the engine running under the hood, all I can hear is the injectors / HPFP noises.   Are there any other symptoms or fault codes for knackered chains?

Replaced the purge valve earlier still no difference in noise. I think i'm just being paranoid. This is how it sound now.

Fitted the HPFP i got from @Rob.

I compared the plunger against the one i got from rob. Think mine is fooked. The plunger catches and makes a noise.
