Bilstein B8 + VWR Springs (MK5 R32)
« on: August 08, 2015, 11:39:13 am »
Anyone running the above combination on their MK5? Although I have an R32 I'm looking to get some feedback on their general performance. Currently on BC Racing BR Coilovers and they're a bit too 'hardcore' for everyday driving on the roads locally.

Also, does anyone know if Golf R MK6 suspension is interchangeable with suspension on a Golf R32 MK5?

No, but I am going to! I have VWR springs already (a great upgrade to the OEM set-up), but my OEM Sachs dampers have recently given signs of being a bit tired (vague wandering at speed, little rebound, unequal compression across the car), so I knew I had to upgrade.
I was in a similar boat to you - I didn't want coilovers on my daily driver, and didn't want original dampers again.

I read the B8's are a good match for most lowering springs, and are the same dampers as supplied on the B12 Pro kit. I read pages after pages of stuff on VWVortex about Mk6 dampers vs. Mk5 - my conclusion was that the mk6 may be softer, but by only 10-15%, and I reckon you'd never know the difference unless you tried both.

I've gone for the Mk5 versions of the B8's as so few people on here piped up to say they run mk6 versions.

I'm just waiting for the B8 dampers to get to APS, and a date for fitting. Will let you know what I think...

Cheers Dave! Look forward to hearing how you get on with them. I've also been reading the whole MK5 vs MK6 Bilstein debate so I'm undecided as to whether to go for specific R32 versions or take a gamble on the ones for a MK6 R.

If I only drove the car once a week the BC's I have would be liveable. The local councils have done a cheap job on resurfacing all the roads near me with crappy tarmac and turned every drain cover into a suspension smasher, so I need something a bit more compliant and comfortable.
