Hi all,
Before I got my Mk5 it had a light rear impact which made the rear bumper bubble upwards, causing friction with the tailgate which had broken through the paint and started corroding. I've been meaning to get it fixed for a while and winter is approaching so better do it now rather than later.
Option 1: Repair
VW approved shop quoted £800 for a respray and something to push the bubble in the bumper back down. Without taking the bumper off it's rather hard to see what is causing the bubble. Non-approved shops quoting much lower, around £300.
Option 2: Replace
Find a replacement tailgate and bumper and install those myself. Looks like it might be around £400 to find what I'm after.
(Does anyone know the part numbers for a mk5 tailgate and rear bumper? I think I'll give VW a call and just see how much more expensive it would be, if they have any still.)
Any thoughts on which option to go for?
