Had a new diverter valve fitted
« on: September 03, 2015, 07:05:26 pm »
Got the Rev D http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181712820008 off eBay and had it fitted last week. The original was completely blown. The difference is huge (the original was blown when I got it).

However, it does seem to leak a bit. I only really get full boost when the cars been pushed a for 10 or so mins and the turbo is getting hot (I presume).

As an example, when you push it in first without ragging it for a bit, it just seems to go off the line quite slowly.

But if you give it some, then stop and floor it, the wheels are skidding and it pulls really hard.

Is this the expected result? I have read that this type of DV does leak.

Rev G all the way.

I've found lots of turbocharged cars can be a bit inconsistent with power delivery anyway. Lots more factors like heatsoak, charge temp etc come into play.

My GTI is great now it has the Revision G, and while I wouldn't neccessarily call it inconsistent, it does seem to have its good days and its really good days.

I too have a g fitted and funnily enough, I thought the car felt like it was lacking some today, but then 10 mins later fine again!

My brother has a 2.0 tsi and has been advised that they stretch the g dv's really easily and a stage 2 tune so he has just bought a d from advice. I find it a bit of a minefield with regards to who reckons which is best....

I know a lot of the top tuners and specialists prefer the G - R-Tech being one of them.

It seems that between the D and G it's swings and roundabouts. The piston design of the D is in theory more reliable than a diaphram valve like the G over time, but still 'seeps' boost due to the design.

The G holds boost better, but is more prone to failing sooner as once the rubber splits it's bye bye boost.

K04 and K03 cars have the DV in different locations - I think on a K03 it's closer to the turbo, so the diaphram G may have a shorter lifespan than on a K04, due to the extra heat.

Either way, the best suggestion I've heard is to replace the DV with a Rev G regularly, either once a service or every other. They're cheap enough.

The tsi runs a smaller ihi turbo and supposedly runs hotter than a ko3 so I can understand if the d is preferred on them over the diamphram g

Great info guys, just so I know what does a healthy DV. Noise sound like? My car seems to make a farty kind of noise at low revs / off throttle? Is this the DV or something else, my car seems to pull hard with no issues, (running stock)

Treat a DV like a consumable service part in as much as checking it every 5-10k miles and replacing as required. Either one will be fine, as mentioned it's an equal argument for both revisions.

Moving over to Flickr, sorry for the broken picture links!

just to update..

It seems that the more miles I do, the less its keeping boost. Im finding I am having to give it more welly before I can get full pressure. Ive done about 1000 miles in the last week and over 250 just today. Its a mix of london trawl and motorway.

I am ordering the Rev G tonight and getting it fitted during service, new air con compressor and removing pre cat.
