Fuel
« on: December 16, 2015, 10:22:21 am »
Having only established that my car should be on 98 Ron and have been using 95 Ron, my local sainsburys super unleaded is 97 Ron. Is this ok? Or should find somewhere that has 98 Ron.

Are you mapped? It's always better to use 98 or 99 Ron as the car will perform better and give you better mpg. I always used shell vpower, before map and after remap. I put in 95 Ron once as I was stranded and my mpg went down about 3.

I always put in V-Power. Makes a noticeable difference (to me at least) to the power.

It does state in the manual that less power is made on 95 RON.

The higher the octane rating (RON), the more performance and economy you'll get out of your fuel. I use Tesco Momentum 99RON fuel as it's no better or worse than Shell or BP but costs a lot less per litre.

Are you sure your car needs 98RON as a minimum?  Mine needs 95RON minimum, but I tend to use Tesco 99RON stuff.

Performance and economy will be affected with lower RON fuel, even on the standard map. The higher the better octane wise, so venture out for some Tesco Momentum or V-Power if possible, but if not then the 97 from Sainsburys will have to do. Using cheaper fuel (95) means the car becomes reliant on the functionality of the knock sensors to continuously pull timing back to keep it safe

Having data logged both V-Power and Tesco, I've found V-Power to be better in terms of reducing knock, but there's not a lot in it. Both are miles better than anything else available.

95ron is what I use and there's no reason for any other but having said that v power momentum 99 etc are better for the engine performance and give you better mileage.
Last week I decided to put V power in as I was feeling rich  :jumping: and I already know that I'd get better power out of it but wanted to feel again

Ps I'm not mapped but it doesn't matter as car still performs better with V Power or as everyone says higher octane fuel.  :happy2:
