Clockspring broken!
« on: April 19, 2016, 12:58:22 pm »
Hi guys,

The clockspring on my scirocco recently broke and vw have quoted me around 390-410 to fix this, how much would i expect to pay from an independant? I have tried to call a few however they said they would be unable to fix it, any decent garages in west yorkshire that anyone can recommend?

The part itself is around £90 from VW. It's literally a case of just taking the steering wheel and airbag off.

I had my steering wheel control module taken off and replaced (which is an almost identical process to the clock spring) for £60 (one hour labour) at Germanautocare in Leeds. They were a professional outfit and did exactly as I told them. They have VAS computers as well. I'd recommend them.

Incidentally, what makes you think the clock spring is broken?

I get that mate, but the clock spring itself doesn't create an error code. VW told me my clock spring was faulty, but it turned out to be the steering wheel module. They go through "guided fault finding", which is just troubleshooting and guessing. VW Leeds were hopeless.

Is your horn not working? Airbag light?

I have a spare. Don't mind sending you it. If it sorts your issue you can donate some beer tokens?

My MK6 clockspring has gone bust.

Just before it let go I could hear a loose, scrapey type noise... not long after mfsw buttons and horn stopped working.

Ordered a new part.
