Car STINKS!!
« on: June 28, 2016, 11:33:36 am »
Used my meticulous car this morning to bring a few bags to the dump for my old man.

After specifically arguing the fact that I don't want any smell or leaking he assured me they were double bagged.

Needless to say they leaked and the car is actually unbearable.

5 people have come into my office today to ask where the smell is coming from!!!

So far I've removed all carpets and alcohol wiped, fairy and hot water, scrubbed with nailbrush and used autoglym cleaner spray but to no avail... I think it was gone off milk.

Any thoughts?

This works great on seats and carpet: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dr-Beckmann-Carpet-Stain-Remover-650ml/dp/B006ZMNWYS think they sell it in Home Bargains too.

I think you need to hoover the smell out now though, also try a Odour Bomb thing.

I was hoping for an old fashioned home fix with what I have available.

Used 11% hypochlorite with a nailbrush and now it's drying off under a fan heater.

Afterwards I'll need to rinse it so it doesn't smell like a community swimming pool but it should hopefully do the trick!

I used some citrous solution, in a spray bottle, from T K Max for removing pet odour on my son's car - that seemed to work ok. Not tried the Bomb thingies. Can you leave the windows open in garage overnight, perhaps?

Feel for you. Always put something as a boot liner on trips to tip etc - easy to say afterwards. Crikey, whats that smell coming from my laptop, ha ha

I always use my 20 year old cabby for dump runs. Many advantages,  old, knackered, roof off- smell out...and it sort of serves as a kind of skip...

Disadvantage is being told "We don't take cars!"

If it's the boot carpet, take it out and clamp it to a fence/wall (or just hang it up) then snowfoam/shampoo and pressure wash it.
I did this for a spillage and it came out like new.

Even 11% hypochlorite hasn't removed the smell. I've read that baking soda and coffee grounds can help to both absorb the smell and mask up the remainder so it's sitting in the garage now with that for 24 hours.

The car doesn't seem to smell much anymore though so it looks like it's localised to the carpet which is a plus!

Left baking soda and coffee grounds on mat for 12 hours and it still stinks so I took it outside and pressure washed it to death for 20 mins. I then covered it in snowfoam and pressure washed again.

Unfortunately the smell won't leave so I give up....

I'll get my hands on another one!
