Door adjustment ED30

Hi all!

This is my first post here and I need some help :)

After 7 years my new gf just find out that my co driver doors are not closing properly (pictures).

Is it posible to somehow adjust them to fit perfecltly?

For that alignment, it should just be a case of adjusting the latch.  You'll need a triple square socket.  Can't remember the size.  Undo the bolts, slide the latch inwards a bit until you are happy with the alignment, then retighten the bolts.

The top hinge at the front of the door also has some adjustment for sag, if needed.

After adjustment, you might find the door needs a harder slam to shut it until the seals give way a bit.

Easily done! I lived with mine for 3 years and then fixed it one day by chance. I have photos before and after for both mine and my gf's cars! Can find them if you need.

If you're in Ireland I'll happily do it for you if you're wary!

Open the door, put your leg up against the inside of the door. Open your window fully and press the top of the door in toward the car gently but with continuous force.

You will bend the metal just enough. Close the door and check the alignment and repeat as necessary.

I see @Pudding commenting on the door alignment adjustment which of course can be done for a door that is rotated because of bad alignment but from the photo in your case I think it's a bend in the metal from pulling the door in the past.

That's a good point mate.  I assumed the whole door was poking out that much from top to bottom, but may just be the top half as you say.  Needed the full pic really!

Huh, I dont think bending them will do any good, because lower egdes are not in line also (picture).



I think I'll try @Pudding method and if this fails I'll just bend the door a little bit :)

You can see the bottom of the door is out of line from a ding in a car park. The top of the door was also bent prior to this.

The metal can easily be bent when opening the door if you press it against a wall...

Ah, OK, yep I'm going with that /\

I only ever have 3 door GTIs in my head because that's what I've got 

The bottom of the front door's panel is clearly bent.   I would straighten that first, and then the rest will just be alignment as per my first reply hopefully.
