Gearbox bellhousing to engine bolt kit - is it needed?
« on: September 22, 2016, 12:41:24 pm »
Hi all,

Looking for a little advice.

Is it necessary to use new gearbox bellhousing to engine bolts each time the gearbox is removed and refitted?

I had not heard of it as being required before but looking at a new clutch kit on darkside developments and they recommend the bolt kit which costs about another £70. I'm happy to pay but just not heard of them needing to be replaced when taking gearbox off other than from the place that sells them...

The gearbox has to come off as the clutch release bearing is getting quite noisy. The car has done 65k miles and has been remapped a while ago so going to buy the full sachs kit from darkside and replace the clutch and dmf while the box is off so should I just get the bolt kit too and then everything will be done and can be forgotten about. I am planning on having the car for quite a while so I'm leaning towards just getting the bolt kit too.

Thanks,

Chris
It wouldn't be fun if it was easy, I just wish it wasn't this much fun.

Completely unnecessary IMO. Save the £70 and spend it on more car parts. I replaced my clutch last weekend and wouldn't have even pondered the thought of replacing the bolts. Never have done on any other clutch changes I've done either.  :happy2:

Ok, thanks for the speedy reply  :drinking:

Yeah, it is a lot of money for something I'd not heard of as being needed from anywhere else.

Cheers,

Chris
