OEM "VW Sound System" Amplifier
« on: March 17, 2017, 10:49:59 pm »
Namely part 1K6035456.
Some Mk5s had this as a factory fitted under passenger seat amp. Can this be installed in cars that didn't have the amp as standard, and if so which wiring harness would you need to connect it to head unit? Thanks

Edit: having done some more research it appears the crossovers are built into the amp so I guess it wouldn't work with cars which have the crossovers in the doors.

Cool, I've been looking for something like that.   What power output does it have?

I would imagine VW crossovers would be a simple capacitor and / or coil affair, which can be cut off easily enough.

Sorry I have no idea. Apparently they are quite rare, not many Golfs had them fitted in the factory.

Your right about the crossovers, each speaker output is routed separateley from the amp, so each front door has 3 pairs of cables and rear speakers 2 pairs, so you'll need to route tons of extra cabling through the door plugs, plus door skins off as that's only way to get to door cabling, big project when you can just use a 4 channel amp with existing cable.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a stand alone or after market loom from anyone for such a rare thing to retro fit, hell of a job to give a go.
Loads of extra's and retro fits.

Yeah had to do some of that recently when I changed my speakers, ran new cabling so the door skins had to come off and had to fit the crossovers under the seats as not enough space inside the doors in a 5 door car. Very time consuming.
