MK5 Golf ABS Pump part number compatibility
« on: November 26, 2016, 08:53:43 pm »
Hi Guys,

I have a 07 MK5 Golf and my abs/esp light is continuously illuminated, and after a bit of fault finding it came up with the g201 brake pressure sensor fault.

I am now at the point of ordering a used abs pump to replace mine with, my module's part no is 1k0907379 ac and pump 1k0614517 ae

now I am finding a lot of pumps with the same part numbers but with different letters at the end, so for example 1k0907379 k, and these seem to be a lot cheaper, will these still be compatible on my car or does the part number have to be exact?

I have heard that the letters at the end are just different revisions of the abs pump and they should be compatible? just wanted to be sure.

thanks for any helP!

Suffix letters tend to designate an upgrade to previous designs. Id be vary surprised to find that there was a fitment issue.
Have you looked into getting the fault sorted with a repair kit
A decent vag specialist will be able to repair rather than replace
I had a goodwill replacement done on a previous car by VW who would have charged over £1000 :booty:
The local specialist offered to repair for £250 if vw didn't play ball

Probably be best sending yours off to a company like BBA remain to get it repaired or buy the repair kit from Vw coz a second hand one might do the same sometime down the line with it been a common fault.

I might be worth taking it to VW as I had a fault last year with my ABS pump which they fixed under warrantee, the guy in the service centre said that there was lots of them and it's a widely known issue!

// I've just looked through my paperwork for the car, ans all I've got is a sheet to say that a brake pressure sensor was changed. Although, at the time, the service guy said it was reading 200Bar all the time, and it needs the ABS pump removing to get to the sensor, as well as all the brakes bleeding again to do the job.

Definitely ring them and ask.

Thanks for all your help,

I have heard of VW doing such repairs FOC but my mk5 is a 07 plate and doubt they would do such an old car with 122000 miles :(

I will deffo look into getting it repaired if the cheap replacement I have bought doesnt work!

thanks again

What happened with yours in the end? I've also got the ESP light on now...

Vw stopped offering goodwill for the abs repair kit in July 2015
Get it checked for fault codes and go from there

Thanks. It's going back to the garage I bought it off next week to be looked at. I figured they just cleared the code when I bought it so I'll demand I see the diagnostic report print out to see the codes... I'll also mention 'G201' to them so they know I'm not messing!

P.S sorry to hijack the thread.

So the garage I bought the car from has said the ABS unit is faulty and it's been sent to a specialist for repair - which at least sounds like a proper repair is being carried out. Seems my printed research potentially did the job.

Will have to wait till the end of the week before getting it back and hearing the full low down. Fingers crossed.
