Edition 30 engine spec
« on: August 26, 2020, 07:39:53 pm »
Hello All,
I have just collected a centre exhaust section for me edition 30 only to find the fitted 'original system is 1 piece (from cat tp tail pipes).
Mr TPS states that the part I paid for is a part for my car - im now wondering is the car I had for 5yrs a bit of a 'dodgy one'
What I need to know is that do Edition 30s have a BYD engine serial or is it different?
Any help greatly appreciated
Jase

Seem to recall factory exhaust are one piece as it does not have to dodge any other parts, it takes more time to assemble and it's one less place to fail/leak. Sections of exhaust then get fitted as they fail.

Rare to see on a car this age in the UK - suggests your Golf has been very well looked after, low mileage and garaged?

The factory exhaust is 2 piece.

Section 1 - Downpipe and 2 cats.  Turbo to approx just under the rear seats.
Section 2 - Mid and rear silencers.  From there to the bumper.

They do last well.  Mine developed a small leak at the mid silencer at 146K.  I just stuck another one on from ebay.  There's usually plenty about as a lot of people fit aftermarket exhausts and shove the original one in the shed as they cost a fortune from VW.

Yep BYD is the code for ED30/Pirelli, but it makes no difference in terms of Exhaust, brakes or suspension as they're the same as the GTI.

That's right - factory is 1 piece. But the replacement is sold from VW as 2 piece. You are supposed to cut the old one.
