As part of my final 100k service on the GTI having changed the cam chain, adjuster and tensioner last week...... I changed the primary and secondary Lambda sensors as they tend to slow with age if not come close to end of life.

Got BOSCH items from Opie Oils as they are the same as genuine ones (also made by BOSCH) but a lot cheaper at £110 for both.

She should be good now for another 100k......touch wood

On a positive note, I have noticed that my exhaust tips have become a lot less black/sooty (90% less) since the lambda replacements, so the car must be running a lot more efficiently now  :happy2:

Have you noticed better fuel consumption or is it too soon to tell. I was surprised how quick mine get sooty and I'd like to see an increase MPG.

Yes the exhaust tips are def a lot cleaner after a week, as mine too used to get very sooted up.

Fuel economy has def increased, but unsure how much exactly in the last coupe of weeks.

What I have noticed is that I usually have about a 1/4 of a tank of fuel at the end of a week consistently (stick £30 in and it bumps it to about 3/4 full, but last weekend noticed I had a lot more left doing the same journeys at just under half a tank left, so just stuck less in.

I will monitor it closer, but wish I did it sooner now

It's not something I would have thought about doing but it's definitely going to be on my to do list now.

Decided to allocate some funds to the car again this month and did a suspension refresh. New Lemförder sway bar end links, new Bilstein B4 sport front and rear shocks, Eibach Pro-Kit coils from my old Jetta (7k km on them tops) and new dust/mud guards for the shocks along with new Lemförder strut mounts front and rear.

Car feels a lot more stable and wheel hop went away for the most part. It's slightly stiffer than my factory sports suspension but overall seems more comfortable for some reason. It's stiffer when going over speedbumps for example but a lot more comfortable when driving on a slightly uneven road. Next up I'll probably get a 034 Motorsport solid rear sway bar for the suspension as the car still understeers. Drove a friend's Audi A4 B7 and oversteer feels better than understeer.

Also changed to winter tires since it snowed the other day.

Before

After

I can definitely see why Eibach isn't selling black coils for the GTI. This thing is actually slightly taller in the front than stock (could just be cause of the new shocks not having more than 300km on them so far) and the rear doesnt have that much height difference. The stiffness difference compared to stock wouldn't be worth it for a lot of people. Red coils would serve their purpose better.

Edit: Used photoshop to line up the wheel on the before-after photos. Front is the same height as before the suspension update, rear is lower.
