Insurance!
« on: July 31, 2021, 11:39:24 pm »
It’s that time of year!
Soon my insurance renewal will be here and I’m trying to find the best deal obv! I’m being honest and most probably sensible and declaring obvious modifications, I.e suspension changes, exhaust and intake etc, cheapest I can find atm is £340, which at nearly 32 with 13 years NCB I thinks quite steep! I can get it for £160 if it was ‘standard’ which is what I’ve always done, albeit naughty and in the event of an accident would bite me on the ass!

Does anybody have any recommendations, perhaps similar age and situation and managed to obtain cheap insurance themselves?

Depends where you live as well! Mine went down 100 quid when I moved to Cardiff. When going online admiral and other companies will give you the idea that they cover vast upgrades like suspension and roll cages etc. But when I spoke to them to double check they basically said upgrades like roll bars and adjustable coilovers etc they would not cover. I went with brentacre, I'm 27 with similar upgrades, 8/9 years ncb and a cost of around 400 this year I think so sounds about right to me!

I'm 35 with 5 years no claims (Only started driving at 30) and cheapest I could get with mods (remap, sports cat, brakes, intake) after ringing everywhere was £425 which is with Greenlight. I think Sterling was also the same price so might be worth trying those two if you haven't already.

My renewal is just around the corner. I'm 29 turn 30 in Feb with a moderate list of basic mods, nothing too drastic to the power output, and have been with A-plan the last few years who put me with Marker Study. 6 years no claim this time, last year = £640, Renewal = £585 but shopped around and hadn't tried Brentacre before and they quoted me £475! so i know who im going with this time. Also Brentacre have put me with "Highway" which is a division of LV so hopefully better than what i've heard about marker study. Excess went up £100 when i moved last year as our current drive has no dropped kerb yet so am parking on the road.

A plan, was good to me on my. Try Adrian flux, brentacre, green light insurance. All specialise in modded cars.

Currently with direct line as they are the cheapest to insure me 27 with 8 years ncd, and 1 claims, they now cover mods too.

They only ask for 3 years claim history which can be an advantage. Most ask for 5 year history.

Tried brentacre, Greenlight, reis, Keith Mitchell’s and all of confused.com/compare the market! Admiral came out cheapest at £267 mods declared! Happy with that

Good price! If you have not you may want to double check over the phone, they gave me a very cheap quote with all mods via confused.com but when I spoke on the phone to them to declare mods specifically (so telling them coilovers instead of just "uprated suspension" and brake ducts instead of the generic "uprated brakes") so there's no arguments later down the road if I make a claim, they apologised and said we can't cover you with adjustable suspension and all the other stuff as well, it's too many mods for them to justify the risk they basically said. If you've checked the boxes like "uprated suspension" and they take you on based on that then legally you may have the winning hand anyway as they did not ask for specifics, I'm a bit cautious though and was not comfortable with that hence paying the extra money for Brentacre!

Yeah I see your reasoning there! I just have bilstein b8 shocks and eibach springs so nothing adjustable, listed as lowered/stiffended suspension less than 5cm. Exhaust system/manifold changes and non standard engine filters. Pretty standard mods, listed on my policy in writing too. I’m happy with that
