Seats Gti vs Gt
« on: July 30, 2021, 12:00:52 pm »
Recently purchased a 5 door 55 mk5 Gti dsg.  First things I am am not a fatty but I am tall with broad shoulders.  Unlike many others I do find the seats uncomfortable.  I know this has been discussed before but I can’t find answered to these Qs 1) has anyone successfully solved this issue by modding seats via trimmer, or changing seats to another option?

I have considered leather GT seats which are similar but I think just a little less aggressive re bolstering.  However they are not identical I don’t know how easily they would swap, guess air bags would be an issue.  Trimmers in Surrey think they can adjust bolsters on current cloth Gti seats.   One bolster needs repair anyway, standard.

Any help greatly appreciated and suggestions for other seats that may be an easier swap greatly appreciated.

The seats should just swap out.  As you say.....the GT versions will not have the bigger bolsters.

Just disconnect he battery for 30 minutes to make sure airbags do not get set off with messing with the plugs

Thanks for reply.  Got the GT seats today,  they definitely suit me better.  Mechanically it’s a straight swap but electrically not.  The GT has electric lumber the gti has manual lumber.  The GT has has black plug which fits straight in a yellow plug (airbag) which looks like it should fit straight but doesn’t want to go in (I think gti has two airbags and GT one) then a third  black plug which I assume is for the lumber and heat but nothing to plug that into.

If anyone any suggestions greatly appreciated. If I was to plug in just the black and drive off to a motor electrician would this cause problems? Yep guessing airbag light will come on.  Can anyone recommend a motor electrician in north London?
