To break or sell complete?
« on: February 27, 2023, 02:39:25 pm »
Afternoon all,

Posting this a bit early but the question is in the title really. The car is a 2005, 205k miles, paint in average condition with a few rust spots, goes well, good points; engine is BWA and on 100k, but I had the chain and tensioner etc done earlier this year, plus a full service. Wheels are good, diamond cut Monzas, also suspension is quite new, White Line ARBs front and rear with other bits I can't remember plus shocks are Bilstein B4, so stock equivalent, and springs likely to be B3s before long as the Eibachs are too low. Standard rip in the driver's side bolster and wear and tear.

Just wondering if it's worth selling or breaking because at that mileage it can't be worth much? I figured I might actually get more breaking it.

The money would be better towards a newer GTi

Got to be worth min 2 grand? so probably not worth the hassle of breaking it?

Engine should go for 900, seats maybe 200 if there is some damage, steering wheel probs about 200. Arb's maybe like 150? Wheels about 300 odd. Maybe 100-200 for side skirts and bumpers, 50 odd for the front calipers. So that's 1900 min I see there but.... while all the other bits are worth money you may be looking at them in your shed or garage for a looooong time. I recently stripped out my interior and the seats sold super fast, but the other interior parts either didn't sell or went for pennies because no one else was interested. If you're happy to wait and turn potentially a bit more money over but in the space of like maybe 12 months then maybe worth a punt, otherwise I'd say just wait for the right seller who will understand despite the miles the engine is healthy and reasonably low miles for its age and the suspension is tip top.
