Timing chain slapping and grinding once warmed
« on: July 03, 2024, 10:05:03 pm »
Hi, Need urgent advice or help on this please. I had a timing chain replaced and after 1000 miles at idle had a slapping/tapping noise and when i set off from idle i hear a grinding noise. Had another mechanic look at it and replaced with another timing chain kit and a camshaft and noise is still here. I can hear the chain grinding when setting off from idle and the chain slapping/tapping on idle. The timing chain has been done twice now and i’m taking it to mechanic 3rd time. Is it cam shaft sensor or the vvt valve or the sprocket maybe? Any advice helps thanks in advance

Does the noise go above 1500rpm and is it worse when hot?  If so, one of the plastic oil control rings on the chain cover could have snapped when sliding it back on, which is very common.
