Side Sill Cover
« on: December 21, 2024, 12:43:54 pm »
Trying to source a genuine L/H side sill plastic trim/cover - Part # 1K4853859B9B9. Looking at parts images it seems it is fixed with (tapping) screws at the bottom with a peel-off adhesive strip along its length at the top. I have seen other images and parts mentions of trim brackets too but not sure if these are required or come with the new cover - no seller images describe or show this bracket.

Any ideas or own experiences?

Cheers

easy fixing is with 1K0853493 and 3M VHB double sided tape  iirc i used the 10mm x 2mm.  Put the tape on to allow water to escape :happy2:

Thanks for the info terrier :)

Are those two plastic mounting clips/adapters each side already there and reusable? I made the error in buying non-genuine (and dark grey) VAG side covers which require priming then black top coat, whereas the genuine covers are black satin plastic and require no painting. Will return the lookalikes and take the hit on the proper genuine ones.

Thanks. Have bookmarked a couple of suppliers, LLL being one of them. Other OEM side cover options are from Lithuania or Latvia. Either way, nothing in the UK unless it's ebay for used and marked ones.

Slow progress so far. UK sill covers I ordered on eBay were non-OEM and are thin grey smooth plastic type that need priming then top/final coat - my fault, I should have checked first. Taking the hit and return posting these.

The LLL part recommended earlier, when I checked availability, replied back to say part # 1K4 853 859 B 9B9 is no longer supported/offered, which is weird as it looks the very part in their eBay image. Started to make me think that there might be a difference in length between my 3-door vs 5-door. Can't imagine VW would manufacture a different shaped trim/cover part just to cover the same sill? Maybe I'm wrong unless anyone can confirm. Found instead another eBay site (lithuania) which said they did have that part number. Now clarifying with them it's a left-hand fitting for a 3-door GTi, and not something else.
