changing side skirts advise please
« on: July 01, 2009, 01:46:52 pm »
I'm getting a bit tired of the ABT side skirts on my car. As below.

Soz for old image, new wheels (pescaras), legal plates and front lip coded now, just best pic i have to show the abt look.

Seen these on the bay, does anyone think that as the ad says they are genuine?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-MK5-Golf-GTI-R32-side-skirts-genuine-brand-new_W0QQitemZ280365092011QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item41470fccab&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1683%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A2%7C294%3A50

Think I will mail the seller to ask if they are stamped by VW on the plastic somewhere, cant be arsed with flimsy copies.

Check to see if they are either R32 ones or GTI ones also as the r32 ones come primed and the GTI ones come in textured plastic the same as your bumper. I emailed the same bloke this question not so long ago hoping they were the primed ones but had no reply from him. Also check the price of the same skirts in your local dealer also as im not sure on the current prices but when i priced them up the begining of the year they were only something like £35 each from them. :happy2:
But generaly if he is stating on ebay that they are genuine and they turn up and the are not you can get your money back off him as he has miss sold them so you can claim on ebay item not as described

Yeah £400 sounds about right for a set of primed ones R32 ed30 etc. But the GTi textured plastic ones were £35 ish begining of the year.

The part numbers for the skirts are (hopefully they aint changed from when i got a quote)
2dr left: 1K3 853 859b - 2dr right: 1K3 853 860b 9B9 (satin black)

2dr left: 1K3 853 859a - 2dr right: 1K3 853 860a GRU(primed)

Youll also need the fitting kit which includes
4 x Adapters: 1K0 853 493
Retaining strip left: 1K0 853 543
Retaining strip right: 1K0 853 544
8 X hex socket head panel bolt: bn 103 546 02
18 X hex collared bolt: WHT 000 187

Just noticed you already have skirts fitted so you may not need the fitting kit

I think the GTI textured plastic ones were so cheap due to a mistake on the VW parts system, think it's been fixed and they are a bit more than that now?

I think the R32/Ed30 ones in primer are £216 each with all fixings, I got priced up for some a while ago but then managed to get a pair with all the bits required for £270 off ebay, not exactly cheap but cheaper!

Hmm but any good body shop will be able to smooth the textured ones out wont they?

Is the style that different between them? I will have to pay MUCH more attention to these from here on in.

I just kind of had a moment and looking back at my car they just suddenly looked out of place somehow..

But at £400 plus paint etc there are better less cosmetic mods I could do to make it more fun, suspension, brakes, revo etc...
