Think my average is very close to 30. On a long run doing 70 with occasional bootage, i can get 35!

Lets face it... who bought a GTI cost of its economy?  :P

General driving to work for the week (15 miles each way) and a few trips here and there, about 350-370 miles to a tank.

I did actually choose this car over a 330ci because of it's economy.

I'm planning a trip down to Spain for a blast and wanted to work out fuel costs before hand.

Thanks for all your comments guys!

+1. The only time I've been very careful with fuel consumption is when I was moving all my stuff back to the west midlands. Took I think 4 or 5 round trips (150 miles each way, 1200 miles total!) and the car was loaded with stuff.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I've had my car for 5 weeks now and I am getting around 330 to a tank. If I open it up tho it drinks it. Mostly town driving and the odd blast.
Very pleased with the MPG considering the power.

I did actually
It's a good compromise of economy and performance. I sold a BMW 330cd convertible to save some cash and bought the GTI to replace it. To be honest, the difference in economy is so small I don't notice it. I could have had a VAG diesel but I've been there before and don't like them at all

I've driven 30k miles in mine in just under a year (would have been a lot more if I didn't have another car as well!!) and averaged over 31mpg. Could have been close to 40 if I was willing to cruise at 60-70mph

Mine averages 31mpg for a combination of country roads and motorway driving, and I get around 300 miles per tank.  Pretty similar figures to when it was standard.

Hi

I travel about 11 miles each way to work every day which is mainly towns / A-road driving and I get anywhere between 33-35mpg (less if I boot it). I also have Vreds tyres fitted which aren't known for their generosity when it comes to rolling resistance...

One day I did see 37mpg when I tickled the throttle to work...
