GTI Cost v Depreciation

Given that some of you guys have had your cars for a few years, I am just wondering what the approx % depreciation is per year now for average miles (12k)?

I have found an 05 Gti, Laser Blue with only 35k on it but it is £10.5k and seems expensive, realistically what should I pay for it if mint condition? Would it lose say £2k per year?

Just trying to work out whether to pursue or not based and whether I can afford to pay it up over 3 or 4 years.

I would say that £10.5k for that is a reasonable price at first sight. A slight variation may depend on the options it has but also Laser Blue is a rare colour and very nice indeed. I'm afraid that I'm one of those people who buries his head in the sand and simply doesn't consider depreciation - I just enjoy driving a Mk5 GTI too much. Someone else will be along to help you more..........

I paid £9700 2 years ago for a silver mk5, so think that is overpriced. I would says a out £9000 is more realistic fella.

i paid £10,300 from a dealer (not vw) for my 5 door laser blue gti nearly a year ago.. 06 then with 52K on the clock

I paid £10950 last september for a 05 reg Tornado Red 3 door , from a VW Dealer , only option on the car is Leather , 38K miles , 6 months tax and 1 yr VW Used Car Warranty plus 2 free MOTs and Services.

I was recently offered £9.5k for mine as a trade in 05 plate, 55k, 5 door with leather and sat nav + full vwsh.  Admittedly I think they were very keen to sell me the other car but I do see similar vintage cars as my own on the forecourts for over £10k.  I bought it nearly three years ago with 30k less miles for £13.5.

I got the impression dealers are quite keen to keep these in the VW network to keep residuals high, probably because there are so many about on PCP deals and they don't want their gfv's to be eroded to the point the returning customer cant afford to trade up or even worse they have to take the hit on the residual value.

In any case, VW's generally have solid residuals vs the equivalent Ford / Vauxhall so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've just paid £9999 for my 06 GTI with DSG, Xenons, Electric Seats, Luxury Pack e.t.c and only 40,000 miles on from a VW dealer if that helps

back in November last year One of my mates traded his 2005 Gti DSG in for an 2007 Audi TT 3.2 S-Tronic They only gave him £7500 against the TTs £16700
They first offered him £6000

His car had done just under 70000 miles with DSG Paddle shift, MFSW, Cruise, Door entry lights

Thieving dealers had it up for nearly £10000 was only on their for sale section on the website for about 3 weeks. They even sent it to one of their other dealers so he wouldn't see it

I knew the car I bought was getting traded in on March 1st so on the morning it was getting traded in I phoned them up (before they even had it) and put a deposit on it. If I hadn't put a deposit on it there and then, they were putting it on the forecourt for £11999. They only gave the fella who traded it in £8700!

Thats the deposit down  :laugh:

Managed to get it for £9995 with new MOT, 1 year warranty and the cambelt service, can't wait!!!!! It's going to be a LOOOOONNNNGGGG week!
