GTI exhaust on TDI
« on: May 12, 2011, 07:11:15 pm »
I have a tdi 140 with discreet exhausts with a gti rear valence
I know this has been asked many times but i need some answers to a few questions.
I have 2 options

GT TDI 170 twin pipe exhaust
or
GTI twin pipe exhaust

both fit with a clamp and stepper.
Now my question is the gti pipes seems to stick out more from the bumper or is that just me?
And
Will a PETROL gti back box be different to the gt tdi 170 one, they look exactly the same, by that i mean performance, drop in MPG etc

Just pick up a second hand GTI back box, they'll be easier to source than a GT 170 back box and prob cheaper too. There's always a few on ebay eg:

I had the ed30 back box on my GT Tdi and doesn't make any difference with regards to power, economy etc. Purely just for looks.

Just be prepared to clean the soot of your tailpipes on a regular basis.

Thanks Mandy. That's perfect then I'll go for a gti backbox
I guess they are just filled the same with damping material
My cars black so hopefully the soot won't stand out lol

Btw have you got any gti roof spoilers left that you were selling?

No, sold them all I'm afraid, they went pretty quick!

I fitted a GTI back box to my 140.  Well the mechanic did, he said you have to put the old pipe inside the back box as the gti is slightly bigger.
