Advice please---light showing
« on: May 21, 2011, 10:45:01 am »
Hi all....i drive a golf gt 170 and in the last few days the emissions light is showing.
So the update is..took it to vw , ran a diagnostic and came up fault code camshaft sensor..fine..so replaced that but has not worked the problem, i have now re booked for them to diagnostic the ecu wiring.
Has anyone had this themselves and had it sorted under warranty.
New to golfs, so dont know if a vw golf issue.
Any advice would be great....obv dont want it to be loads a pennys, straightforward job??
Cheers,Chris.

Unfortunately without a fault code, no one can advise you without guessing.
Without traction power is nothing!

I had the exact same issue in feb and it turned out to be the timing chain had jumped a couple of
teeth so it turns out there is a modified chain guide to stop it happening ended up costing the warranty
£2000  :drinking:

If the car is running like a bag of bones then id say it could be the timing chain
If you want ask your vw garage to ring corkills in southport as they did the work on mine
New timing chain and guides and a few other bits like fuel pump and fuel lines.
Main problem I've had was power dropping off at 3.5k so vw replaced the turbo
At a cost of 1k :o still didn't sort it and all the time I was saying replace the n75 valve
so last thing they did was that and hey presto car is flying and it is quick as quick as
a gti but better on fuel :P.

Hi..update...so car still in garage, still figuring out the issue...they now need to strip engine or something to look at timings and chain..getting a bit stressed as i only got the car end of march. Only upside if its covered by warranty i wont pay anything but who knows..not a good place to be at the moment.
True what my dad says cars are great unless their not working...fingers crossed.
Cheers,Chris.

So it could be the same as what I mentioned.
Did they check the timing because you mentioned it to them or did they
work it out for themselves.
By the way I only had my car for a month and then didn't get it back for near on
6 weeks because it also had a new turbo fitted as well as the chain so defo got my
moneys worth out of the warranty and now the car is running brilliant and is a lot
quicker than it should be for a 1.4  :driver: :driver:
